British holidaymakers set to visit Europe

Destinations in mainland Europe are attracting the most interest from British tourists this year, a travel firm has revealed.

According to Holiday Extras, people planning a spring break are mainly booking trips to places such as France and Portugal.

However, Spain was highlighted as the most popular destination overall, with Malaga in particular attracting a lot of interest.

"Europe will always be popular," said Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras.

"These are people who have booked in the last month, so they are booking to go away in the spring period."

Mr Whiting added that non-eurozone destinations such as Turkey are also attracting a lot of interest, while a growing number are looking beyond European shores to places including Egypt and Tunisia.

The comments came after a poll by Holiday Extras found that 48 per cent of Britons who are looking for a spring break want to go somewhere hot and sunny.
