Britons seek sunnier climes

Holidaymakers from the UK are keen to visit hot and sunny destinations this spring, a new study has found.

Research by found that nearly half of those who are planning to venture abroad want to go somewhere with warm weather.

The firm also found that demand for spring holidays is still relatively strong, despite factors such as the recession and the weakness of the pound against the euro.

Nearly one in five respondents said they would like to go to mainland Europe for their break, although a similar proportion said they would prefer to enjoy a holiday in the UK.

Mike Whiting, managing director of Holidayextras, commented: "Tourism abroad is still high on the agenda for most."

He added that he is "not surprised" that people from the UK want "guaranteed sunshine" this spring.

This comes after Abta - The Travel Association identified Spain and Greece as two of this year's main hotspots for British holidaymakers.
