Cruising 'can be an affordable holiday option'

Cruising could be a good option for over 50s looking for affordable holidays, according to an expert.

Over 50s looking for a cost-effective holiday choice may wish to consider cruises, according to an expert.

The Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) has stated that more and more holidaymakers are looking to cruising as an affordable travel option during the recession due the number of attractive deals on the market.

This would seem to be borne out by recent figures from the operator All Leisure Group, which showed that a ten to 15 per cent decrease in average prices this summer have led to cruises being booked to higher capacities.

Penny Guy, a spokesperson for the PSA, forecast further popularity for cruise holidays, suggesting that fly cruises are also seeing rising levels of interest.

She singled out the Middle East and Dubai as potential destinations for those looking to cruise further afield.

However, Ms Guy added that traditional locations such as the Caribbean also remain popular, as trips from UK ports allow travellers to "start their holiday the minute they step onboard".
