Divorcees 'opting for cosmetic surgery'

Many people are opting to undergo cosmetic surgery in the wake of a divorce, according to an expert.

Dr Jean Loftus, author of The Smart Woman's Guide to Plastic Surgery, said divorced women often want to feel better about themselves in the wake of their split.

Therefore, many are opting to alter or enhance their physical appearance in an attempt to boost their self esteem.

"Plastic surgery can improve how a person looks and feels about themselves," Dr Loftus commented.

She added that many of her patients feel better and more confident after undergoing the procedure.

However, she urged people who are considering going under the knife to think about why they want to have cosmetic surgery.

Dr Loftus insisted that it should be done for the person themselves, rather than as a means of impressing someone else.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the most popular procedure among women, although the number of people having facelifts has increased significantly in recent years.
