Eastern Europe 'can provide cheap holiday locales'

Eastern Europe may be a suitable holiday destination for over 50s looking for an affordable trip, according to a report.

Over 50s on the lookout for a cheap and affordable holiday destination may find what they are after in Eastern Europe, according to a report.

Research published by Tesco Travel Money has revealed that average weekly holiday expenses for a family of four's holiday to Bulgaria would cost 1,048, compared to 1,490 for a stay in Brighton.

This has led price comparison site to endorse Eastern European destinations such as Bulgaria, Hungary or Poland as ripe for bargain-hunters.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert for the company, suggested that the relative wealth of the UK means that British holidaymakers will be able to take advantage of "astronomically" affordable prices should they choose to visit the area.

He also cited the fact that these nations do not use the euro as another economic factor from which UK travellers can profit.

Mr Atkinson said: "When you book a holiday and you get there, having a meal out and travelling around buying gifts and souvenirs seems incredibly cheap."
