Escorted holidays remain popular with over 50s

Over 50s from the UK are continuing to favour escorted holidays in foreign destinations.

According to the UK Holiday Group, older people enjoy the company of tour managers because they can provide a lot of useful information and assistance.

Indeed, sales director Harold Burke said leisure travellers tend to feel a greater sense of security if they have experts on hand.

This, he stated, can prove influential in encouraging tourists to book similar types of holidays in the future.

"Tour managers provide expert commentary and an experienced hand when assisting with customer needs such as accommodation or medical situations," Mr Burke commented.

He added that scenic coach touring and river cruising is very popular with over-50s, particularly in places such as mainland Europe.

The comments come after a study of people aged above 55 by Age Concern found that nearly two-thirds would like to make more holidays this year.
