France 'can still be an affordable holiday option'

Over 50s looking for an affordable place to enjoy a holiday may still find a number of appealing options in France, according to an expert.

Recent research from the Telegraph suggested that the European country has suffered a decline in interest among travellers due to the recession and the increased strength of the euro.

However, Nina Richards, deputy editor at travel portal, has stated that the site has retained a steady stream of interest in holidays as travellers discover more cost-effective French holiday ideas.

She suggests that many are looking to self-catered accommodation or a camping trip near a hotel, while others are discovering a range of affordable deals via last-minute bookings.

This comes after the France Tourism Development Agency published a new online database of cheaper holiday options which include a number of diverse choices, including city breaks and countryside trips.

Ms Richards said: "Although the strong euro has affected some holidaymakers' budgets, most wishing to go to France have just looked for cheaper options It really depends on the type of holiday."
