Gardening tips

There are a lot of variables to keep in mind when you begin to take up gardening. One of the first gardening tips to consider is soil type. You will need to determine what type of soil in which you are going to be planting. Is it rich, or sandy, or more like clay? This will determine what kinds of plants are suitable for the garden. It will also determine how much and what kind of fertilizer you will need to use when planting.

Two more important gardening tips involve sunlight and water. Different plants require different amounts of light and water. Consider how much bright sun there is in your garden space and how much shade is present most of the time. Buy your plants accordingly. If you buy a beautiful plant that needs full sunlight, and you plant it under a tree, you will not be able to keep that plant alive and healthy no matter how hard you try. The tree has to go, or the plant will. Therefore, read labels on plants and only buy them if they fit your property description. The water issue is a bit more flexible than the sunlight one. If a plant requires a lot of water, and your area does not receive very much rainfall, you can usually compensate for this by watering your plants. If your property receives more rain than the plant can handle, however, there is not much that you can do to change that.

Also, be sure to pay attention to what kind of temperature that your plants will tolerate and thrive in. If you live in a mild climate, you will be able to plant more delicate plants and flowers. If you receive frost and snow, you will need to purchase and plant accordingly. If you are in a mild climate that receives the occasional nip of frost, simply cover your plants with a sheet on suspected frost nights. Do not use plastic or the plant will freeze, but instead use an old cotton bed sheet.

Read up on the plants that you want, and keep in mind your own property’s conditions. If you buy your plants and cultivate them accordingly, you will find yourself with a beautiful, healthy, and thriving garden of plants. If you don’t, you will be disappointed at how quickly the plants wither and die. Most people who claim to have a “black thumb” when it comes to gardening are simply people who do not research their plants and environment properly. You cannot plant a drought tolerant plant in an area that floods, or a water loving plant in a dry zone. The last of our gardening tips is do your homework and you will find that gardening is truly an enjoyable and rewarding pastime.
