Greece attracts British holidaymakers

Greece has been identified as a popular hotspot for British holidaymakers.

Over 50s from the UK who are looking to travel abroad could find that Greece offers excellent value for money.

According to the Greek National Tourism Organisation, the Mediterranean country is a "paradise" that has many advantages, such as sea, sunshine and affordable prices.

Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the organisation's UK and Ireland office, also noted that Greece has lots of attractive scenery, landscapes and local hospitality.

"You can find exactly what you want," he commented.

Mr Panayiotaki highlighted Corfu as one of the most popular destinations among British holidaymakers.

Rhodes was identified as another hotspot of activity, along with the island of Crete.

He also noted that Skopelos has seen a surge in visitor numbers over the last year.

This, he said, is partly because it featured heavily in the film Mamma Mia!, the adaptation of the stage musical which starred Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.

Mr Panayiotaki added that Greece is currently one of the four most popular holiday destinations in the world.
