Holidaymakers 'discovering less common UK locations'

Staycations are making great holidays for the over 50s this year as people look to save money and discover a little more about their home country.

And according to accommodation provider Hoseasons, many are venturing away from popular British holiday resort and exploring some less common locations.

Peter Joyner, a spokesperson for the company, said places like Devon and Cornwall, the Lake District and the Cotswolds will always do well.

But he pointed out that with more people looking for UK breaks, other parts of the country are now seeing increases in tourist numbers.

"What people are doing is spending time over a much broader range of locations rather than focusing on the hotspots," he remarked.

Perhaps a staycation could allow holidaymakers to discover parts of the UK that they have never seen before, or learn more about the country's landmarks.

A recent survey by tourism and hospitality website iknow-uk.com revealed that British tourists know more about foreign landmarks than they do about those on home soil.
