Holidaymakers 'looking for value for money'

Stressed over 50s are looking to utilise their holiday time to relax as cost-effectively as possible, according to new research.

Luke Fredberg, spokesperson from travel community TripAdvisor, states that British holidaymakers use more of their holiday time to simply relax than their European counterparts, as opposed to spending time and money visiting cultural landmarks.

According to the group's figures, UK holidaymakers are among the most prolific sunbathers around, spending an average of two hours and 53 minutes out in the sun as they look to take their mind off the recession.

Mr Fredberg also suggested that British travellers are starting to think beyond traditional holiday spots such as Spain because of the strong euro and are looking to places like Turkey where the exchange rate is relatively favourable.

He said of these locations: "Your money is going to go further so people are starting to look at destinations where you get more bang for your buck."
