Lake District attracts UK holidaymakers

Over 50s who want a short break in the UK could find the Lake District an ideal place to visit this year.

According to rental property website inknow-lakedistrict, more and more people in the UK are choosing to stay in Britain as a result of the current recession.

As a result, there has been an increased amount of interest in the Cumbrian beauty spot, with areas such as Windermere proving to be particularly popular.

The website said this has led to a surge in demand for hotels and B&Bs in the region.

Marcus Simmons, managing director iknow-uk, noted that many visitors are choosing to reserve their lodgings online rather on the telephone.

"The internet is changing the way people find and book accommodation," he commented.

This comes after Jonathan Denby, chairman of the Lakes Hospitality Association, told the Northwest Evening Mail that members of the group are "cautiously hopeful" that the worst of the recession is behind them.
