Nintendo Wii 'becoming popular with over 50s'

Over 50s in the UK are increasingly embracing 21st century pastimes such as Nintendo's Wii games.

Age Concern has recently begun using the technology in order to help older people exercise more and get into shape.

The charity is also planning to give them the chance to compete with each other by staging a Wii-based bowling tournament.

Liz Morgan, spokesperson for Age Concern Berkshire, commented: "The Wii is great fun and we are sure people will enjoy it.

"It can get people fit too."

Speaking to the Reading Evening Post, he added that senior citizens that attend her group regularly partake in the Wii versions of sports such as curling.

Meanwhile, the Evesham Journal has reported that people in Warwickshire are also choosing to keep fit by using the console.

The local council recently staged a session for over 50s to get into shape with the aid of the Wii, playing virtual versions of games such as tennis and golf.
