Online dating profiles 'should be honest and positive'

Over 50s looking to online dating as a means of finding a partner should look to make their profiles as honest and positive-thinking as possible.

US publication the Examiner has offered a series of tips to those trying to write the best dating profile they can, advising users to "sell themselves" as genuinely and openly as possible.

Among the advice offered is the use of a recent picture that represents the user's real personality and the injection of wit and positivity in their own descriptions in order to engage any potential readers.

People are also advised to be honest about themselves, as creativity is not as important as truthfulness.

Writer Noreen Panizzoli said: "Be careful not to exaggerate Give a balanced portrayal of who you truly are - not who you think someone else would want you to be."

The popularity of online dating as a means of finding a partner remains on the rise, with Mintel research published earlier this year forecasting a 20 per cent growth for the industry in 2009.
