Online dating sites attracting more visitors

More and more people in the UK are choosing to find love online, a market analyst has revealed.

According to Jamie Gavin of comScore, the number of people using online dating sites went up by 13 per cent between September 2008 and February 2009.

This works out to just under five million, most of whom were aged over 35, reports New Media Age.

The trend has been attributed in part to the deepening economic crisis in the UK, as Mr Gavin believes finding love is replacing consumer capitalism as a priority for Britons.

"Online dating sites have been rewinding the years and attracting new users like they were going out of fashion," Mr Gavin observed.

He added that this trend is likely to continue, as the UK is widely expected to see further negative economic growth over the next year at least.

This comes after a survey by consumer group Which? found that nearly a fifth of dating website users have either married a person they met online or know someone who has.
