Over 50s 'are looking to live life to the full'

New research by RIAS has revealed that over 50s are living increasingly productive and adventurous lives.

An increasing trend is emerging among over 50s to become more liberated and adventurous as they grow older, according to new research.

A new report from over 50s insurer RIAS has revealed that a third of those in this age group are now looking to "grow old disgracefully", compared to a sixth who have become more conservative.

This has been borne out by the fact that more than 2.5 million over 50s now either own or are planning to start their own business, while 147,000 have broken a Guinness, World or UK record since turning 50.

Janet Connor, managing director at RIAS, welcomes the findings, which she claimed to demonstrate that over 50s are using their life experience to make a positive contribution to society.

She said: "Today's over 50s are diverse, complex and aspirational - one size really doesn't fit all."

This comes after the Prince's Initiative for Mature Enterprise last month called for an end to the stereotype that older businesspeople are risk-averse, labelling it a "very sweeping generalisation".
