Quit smoking



There are countless reasons for you to quit smoking, the most serious of which are the risks of medical conditions. Smoking increases your risk of cancer, heart disease, heart attacks, as well as bronchitis and emphysema. Even this gloom picture is not enough to change some peopleís minds, but perhaps it is enough to change yours.

To stop smoking is easy for some, but may be a lengthy battle for others. Many non-smokers may not understand or may grossly underestimate the power of nicotine addiction. Aside from this, there may be contributing factors that may not be easily removable. If you have thought about quitting or have tried to quit but found it difficult, there are a few steps you can take to ensure a more effective approach.

The mind is a powerful factor, and without a firm decision to quit smoking, you are likely to relapse. Once you have made your decision try not to entertain any thoughts of why you should continue smoking. Think about why you smoke, how much it costs you and consider how much you smoke per day. You may even want to draw up a list of the reasons you want to quit, and put it up on your refrigerator or on your bathroom mirror. This will reinforce the choice you have made. If negative effects may have a better impact then write a list of all the risks associated with smoking.

If you feel you donít want to go it alone then try and get a friend or family member to join you in quitting. Ask someone you trust or who you see on a daily basis to help keep you focused. Whenever you feel like a cigarette talk to them about how you are feeling. Some people may find it easy to quit completely, while others prefer to cut down until they eventually stop. If you do end up relapsing itís not the end of the world, you can always try again.

Once you have decided to quit there are a few things you can change in order to facilitate this process. Try not to hang around someone who is smoking, resolve not to let anyone smoke in your house and try and find beautifully scented items to keep around the house, such as flowers or candles. Try and spend time in places where smoking is not allowed, and if you feel the urge to pick up a cigarette rather opt for a toothpick or gum.

If you have made the decision to quit smoking, you can succeed. It is always important to remember that you are not alone, and that you should take it one step at a time.
