Switching supplier 'could save money on heating bills'

Over 50s looking to save money on their heating bills may find they can do so by switching their energy supplier, according to new research.

A report from consumer group Which? has suggested that price cuts among all the major energy suppliers this year has made it the ideal time to search for a cheaper tariff, whether that be through changing provider or selecting a different payment option.

The body suggested that staying with the same supplier can often mean that customers are subject to unexplained bill increases and advised homeowners to keep on top of assessing their payment plans.

Alison Morrison of Which? Switch said: "It seems strange to think about your heating bills in summer, but this is a decision that could benefit customers all year round."

This comes after price comparison site moneysupermarket last month revealed that energy customers could be spending around 170 more on energy bills by selecting to pay by cash instead of direct debit.
