Turkey attracts British holidaymakers

Consumers from the UK are increasingly choosing to take breaks in Turkey this year, according to a holiday firm.

Artemis Travel stated that a number of different factors have led to the European nation seeing a surge in popularity over recent months.

For instance, favourable exchange rates were said to have made Turkey a more affordable alternative to countries in the eurozone.

Indeed, the pound recently slumped to an all-time low against the single European currency, pushing up the cost of breaks in traditional holiday destinations such as Spain and Italy.

Nigel Harris, chief executive of Artemis Travel, commented: "People are looking at the lira versus the euro and are thinking they can get more for their money."

He added that the emergence of top quality accommodation across Turkey has also enhanced its status among tourists, as visitors can now enjoy high standards in hotels and self-catering apartments
